Armed student arrested at Clarington school PDF Print E-mail

Durham Regional Police arrested a knife wielding student on Monday at a Clarington high school.

An armed student led to a lockdown at a Clarington high school yesterday as officers searched and quickly located the suspect outside on school premises.

On Monday April 2, 2012 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Durham Police received a 9-1-1 call from school officials at Clarke High School in Clarington reporting a male student was armed with a knife. He had threatened a school official and was still at large on school property. No injuries were reported and no other person was threatened. School officials activated their lockdown protocol and officers quickly responded to the scene.

After a brief cursory search of the school building and property, the armed youth was located by police and arrested without incident outside of the school building on the premises. The accused was in possession of a folding knife with a three-inch blade.

The 16-year-old male accused from Clarington is charged with: Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
