Clarington Spotlight

Located within the Region of Durham (east of Toronto), the Municipality of Clarington consists of a number of urban and rural communities. The largest of these are Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle and Orono. Other communities of note in the municipality are Newtonville, Enniskillen, Kirby, Hampton, Mitchell Corners, Maple Grove and Port Darlington.

Bowmanville

40,000 call Bowmanville home, making it the largest town in the Municipality of Clarington. Downtown Bowmanville offers a number of unique shops and restaurants for visitors, and the town has a full array of amenities, inluding three hotels and a number of big box retailers.

Newcastle-Clarington
Newcastle

Founded in 1856, Newcastle is located on the eastern edge of the Municipality of Clarington. Surrounded by farms, the village of Newcastle has a population of close to 9,000. It has a small-town feel, yet is close to all the amenities of the larger community of Bowmanville.

Courtice

On the Western boundary of Clarington is Courtice, which borders the City of Oshawa. With a population of 35,000, it is the second largest town in the Municipality, and is one of the fastest growing areas in Durham Region.

Orono

With a population of 1,100, Orono is located north of Bowmanville. It is site of the annual Orono Fair and Jungle Cat World. Nearby is the Brimacombe ski hill.

From nuclear to renewables to energy from waste, Clarington is site of a number of crucial Ontario energy generation projects.

Attractions

Clarington boasts a number of attractions that make it worth a visit. Families will enjoy Jungle Cat World and numerous pick-your-own farms, race enthusiasts will appreciate Canadian Tire Mosport Park and nature lovers will find something to do at Darlington Provincial Park and Ganaraska Forest. There is skiing in the winter and beaches in the summer. Clarington is a four season playground for residents and visitors.
