The rumours, it turned out, were true. The Bowmanville Eagles, after a phenomenal season and playoff run, have been put out of the hockey business.
The team announced on its website that it has officially disbanded.
"It is with great sadness and regret that the Bowmanville Eagles Junior "A" Hockey Club has been officially disbanded," reads the posting at http://www.eagleshockey.com.
"In a 17-12 vote at the OJHL meeting today and with a commitment from Eagle's Ownership to fold the organization and amalgamate with Cobourg, the Bowmanville Eagles Organization officially lost its sanction today and is now defunct."
"This is certainly a sad day for the staff, players, and fans of the Bowmanville Eagles. The Eagles' name has been part of the local hockey scene for over 40 years and has a proud tradition of success. The contributions of all the dedicated volunteers over the years will not be forgotten."
The site asks that any questions about the folding and merger be sent to owner Scott Mackie at
